The Rise of the Unlikely Astro-Convert
Women’s Health Article: The Rise of the Unlikely Astro-Convert
Recently Women’s Health UK Published the article The Rise of the Astro-Convert by Priya Joi and featured quotes from Belinda Matwali.
Priya interviewed many amazing people and it was an honour to be included.
The article looks at the rise of Astrology and how many who were skeptics are starting to see the brilliance and best use for Astrology.
Here’s my quote from the article:
Astrologer and holistic therapist Belinda Matwali, who was mentored by Gabor Maté, says people use astrology for personal development. Indeed, Matwali uses it with clients, rather than as fixed destiny ‘fortune telling’.
‘People are coming for readings to reflect on what’s happening in their life and how and they might want to navigate from there,’ she explains. ‘Rather than being told what to do or a fixed outcome, it's more about self agency which feels much more grounded and liberating.’
Another reason for the rise of astrology could be that it comes at a time when other belief systems such as religion - especially among Gen Z - are declining, suggests Johnson. Although he cautions that ‘correlation does not entail causation’.
Astrology on the Rise Statistics
I loved these stats that Priya quoted in the article.
“I’m not alone in being an astro-convert. On TikTok, the hashtag #astrology brings up 4.6 million videos and the global astrology market is set to almost double to $22.8 billion (£17.02 billion) by 2031. Meanwhile, the astrology app Co-Star grew from 7.5 million users in 2020 to around 30 million by 2023.
Evidence suggests its influence is likely to only grow. A 2024 study suggests that two-thirds (63%) of Gen Z feels astrology positively influences their careers, with 15% even crediting it for landing them their dream jobs.”
