Spiritual Nutrition Wintering Tips

I've figured out that as an Australian, but of Celtic heritage, if I align with the seasons then even Winter feels beautiful to me. Honestly I used to “hate” winter, but I think what I disliked was having to live in an unaligned way with it. Working hard and pushing (investment bank day’s!) when my body just wanted to rest. I realised what I struggled with most was really trying to achieve what I might in a Summer day, during Winter…

The fact that as a society we are expected to function the same throughout the year is now crazy to me.
With less solar energy in Winter we need to rest, slow down, digest the what's happened in the earlier seasons.
I think most people I know this year are doing just the essentials. Relishing traditions like hygge and not feeling bad for it.

My top tips for dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder

  1. Going for a walk in the morning whether it’s sunny or not to get some daylight. I normally am a morning person and do my meditation routine and yoga and then into work, and typically love an afternoon walk. However in Winter it’s dark by 3.30pm…. I’ve found switching up my routine and going out around 8/9am when it’s light for a walk has helped me feel so much better. So don’t be afraid of switching up your work day.

  2. Waking up with a UV light alarm - Lumi is my favourite. This way I don’t feel groggy and not “waking up in the dark with a fright”. I just love it and the gentle light coming on is great for your circadian rhythm. If you need extra UV light you can also buy a desk lamp - but the light alarm and getting outdoors is generally enough for me.

  3. Immune Herbal Tincture - I love this one from Wunder Workshop Botanical Garden which is high in natural vitamin C also contains Mustard Flower essences to lift winter gloom. Use code BELINDA for a special price <3

  4. Slowing down. What’s not essential on your ‘to-do’ list? Winter is for resting. Before electricity, TV, phones people use to rest more in the winter. Resting more now, will pay off come spring and summer. This is the time to just be, let ideas percolate and go with the flow rather than work yourself to the bone. For me doing less and being ok with it, was a huge coping strategy for this last winter.

  5. Space Clearing. Windows shut and stagnant air is a recipe for lethargy. Do a space clearing regularly and feel the difference. I share more about it HERE

  6. Meditation, Move, Create, Dance - my course Ecstasy Now is perfect for really tuning into your spiritual ecstasy, essence, your individuality and finding ways to be creative - this feels like liquid sunshine to me on the darkest of days.

  7. Connect with others - join my Spiritual Nutrition Community to enjoy connection through wintering rituals, wisdom and nutrition.

I hope you find some of these tips useful.
